8 a.m., all of us bleary-eyed and exhausted, running around with our camera gear interviewing people at the 16th and 24th Street BART stops. It was an experiment: a new video segment we’re calling “60 Seconds.” The idea is to get real reactions from the community on what’s happening in the news, whether it’s news they know about, or not.
So this morning we (Claudia, Helene and Heather) met at 16th and Mission streets at 8 a.m. to get people’s reactions to the death of Latin American icon Facundo Cabral. Among our lessons learned: If you’re going to ask people to comment on the death of an international Latin superstar, you’re going to find a lot more people to talk to near 24th Street BART.
People had some lovely things to say. Among them, local musician Alfredo Gómez:
Among other things, he told us that a few locals are organizing a memorial for Cabral next Sunday at 1 p.m., in front of 24th Street BART.
